Ari Up Died at 48

Ari Up, frontwoman for pioneering British punk band the Slits, died Wednesday, in accordance with Sex Pistols' John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten), who wrote on the information on his website. The singer, born Arianna Forster, had long battled a "serious illness," in accordance with Lydon. She was 48.

Slits Ari Up
Up formed the Slits in 1976 on the age of 14, together with drummer Palmolive. The then all-female band, recognized for their unpredictable and outrageous antics, broke punk's boys' club barriers and created the mold for your earlier '90s riot grrrl movement.
