Full moons are known and linked with tides
Full moons are known and linked with tides, insanity and creatures like werewolves, but now they are being considered as good for brewing beer. Peruwelz is a small town in southern Belgium, in this town a family-owned brewery and has produced its first batch of specialist beer brewed by the light of a full autumnal moon.
The owner of Brewery Caulier, Roger Caulier explained, “We made several tests and noticed that the fermentation was more vigorous, more active.” Caulier started in 1930s when his grandfather started selling homemade beer from a handcart.
“The end product was completely different, stronger, with a taste lasting longer in the mouth,” he said. Fermentation process gets faster with full moon, it shortens it to five days from seven, and this adds extra punch to the beer without making it harsh. This finely balanced, gold colored beer contains 10 percent of alcohol in volume. According to most European or US standards it is extremely strong but it is very common in Belgium. In Belgium traditional monk-brewed beers hit 10 to 12 percent usually.
