Oval Office:President Obama's new Oval Office at White House has distinct NY accent

WASHINGTON - President Obama's Oval Office has had a face-lift with a New York accent.

The office has undergone a top-to-bottom makeover, highlighted by handmade striped wallpaper from Amagansett in the Hamptons.

The President's brown leather desk chair, coffee table made of American walnut and mica, custom-made couches and two new table lamps with blue ceramic bases were all crafted by New York manufacturers.

The White House treated the identities of the Empire State companies who produced the furnishings like state secrets, declining to further identify them.

The price tag for the redo also was not disclosed, but interior design experts gave the Daily News a guesstimate of $20,000.

White House aides said the redecorating was not paid for by the taxpayers and is in line with the costs other recent Presidents have spent to put their touch on the room designed by architect Nathan Wyeth in 1909.

While the First Family vacationed on Martha's Vineyard, White House decorators and ushers started the makeover by removing the sunburst design rug commissioned by former First Lady Laura Bush.

It's been replaced by a wheat, cream and blue oval rug with five historical quotations chosen by Obama along the edge. It features the presidential seal and is made of 25% recycled wool.

The quotations include Franklin D. Roosevelt's "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "... the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."
