Pilot AR Drone from your cell phone
Remote controlled cars are like 1900 now. Today’s technology fan boys are using ar drones to satisfy their playing needs.
The AR.Drone was on spotlights at the recent Gamescom in Cologne. AR Drone is powered by 4 propellers and multiple sensors to stabilize it in the air. The drone can be controlled from iPhones, iPods and soon iPads via WLAN.
The AR Drone is equiped with two cameras, one looking out in the flight direction, the other in reverse. The images can be seen on the mobile device you are using to control the drone. The plan is to release games in the near future that will mix the real and virtual worlds – experts call that “augmented reality.”
A demo version dubbed AR.Flying Ace allows for aerial battles between the devices. The flying objects are real; the munitions they shoot are not.
French manufacturer Parrot says the drones can be used both indoors and outdoors. The battery life provides up to twelve minutes of flight time.
Price for an AR Drone is $300 and will be offered in selected electronics markets in major urban areas and possibly online.
